“Reasons for Joining CSI”

Several years ago, I decided to become a member of CSI. Why? Because of the information and educational opportunities available through the CSI web-site. I was very satisfied with what I was being provided through my national member-ship status (personal/professional development). Throughout my career in the construction industry my goal was to be able to pro-vide the best and most accurate information available to my clients in the pursuit of fulfilling their needs and dreams in the satisfactory completion of their construction project. CSI was one source for helping me to achieve my goal, on my schedule, with everything I wanted at my fingertips on the CSI website.

So, what’s the point? The point is, I was receiving everything I hoped from my CSI membership. Until...I attended a CSI national show in Chicago. During the last forty years I have attended shows/seminars from coast to coast. But this show left a lasting impression. The entire show was special—the vendors were geared toward the attendees and were prepared to discuss concerns and answer questions. The seminars were on timely subjects and led by knowledgeable presenters.

At this show, I met some members of the Fox River Valley Chapter, who encouraged me to attend a local meeting and meet other Chapter members.

Not me! I was not interested in another “club” lunch/dinner meeting time commitment. But then I met a group of CSI members from Colorado at the Presidents’ reception and was very impressed by their camaraderie and the extent of business they traded between themselves.

After returning to Green Bay, I received an invitation from the infamous Art Schmidt to attend a Chapter meeting. It was not love at first sight, but it was interesting. In the years since, I have added some tremendous and knowledgeable individuals to my network, both locally and nationally, through CSI membership and participation. My company has completed construction projects in conjunction with other members, of all construction disciplines. The first person we call is a CSI member.

Networking—a benefit I wasn’t seeking when I joined CSI. Now it ranks in importance with the information and educational programs that first attracted me to CSI membership.

I encourage you to use your membership to the fullest to meet your personal goals and needs. No matter how involved you want to be, we would like to hear from you and see you at a meeting. Your input and expectations are important for the growth of our Chapter.

Attend a meeting—you will be welcomed by a group of fellow professionals!
